I have always been able to lose weight, but keeping the weight off is another story. I ALWAYS get back to being 185 lbs because I do not stay consistent. I am changing that NOW!!! I have set up a 6 month challenge for myself to keep myself accountable and now I am sharing it with you all. Anyone who wants to join me on this challenge just comment below. I will be keeping you updated here (monthly), YouTube (bi-weekly), and on Instagram (almost daily). I will also be posted different workouts and meal plans here on a weekly basis so stay tuned. Well I have the perfect style for you to do. This hairstyle will camouflage your two textures while giving you a banging hairstyle.

Products Needed:

Water
Paul Mitchell Original The Conditioner
Elasta QP Olive Oil and Mango Butter Moisturizer
Jane Carter Nourish and Shine
Curls Passion Fruit Control Paste (Optional)
Perm Rods
Bobby Pins
Scarf or Bonnet (Sleep with)

Now let's get started

Step 1: Wash, Condition, and Deep Condition
Step 2: Put your hair into four sections to make it easier to manage (each section will make about 3 or 4 braids each)
Step 3: Take a section out of the section in which you will braid
Step 4: Spritz section with water if getting dry
Step 5: Layer on you products

Leave-in (Paul Mitchell)

Moisturizer (Olive Oil and Mango Butter)

Sealant (Nourish and Shine)

Edge Control only on the front braids (Passion Fruit Control Paste) -Optional

Step 6: Start braiding
Step 7: Stop braiding when you have about an inch or so left, and comb the ends (Add more product if needed). Then add your perm rods.
Step 8: Once completely done use bobby pins to pin down braids around your head, this will allow you to have less shrinkage.
Step 9: Tie down with a scarf or bonnet and sleep tight!!!

In the morning

Step 10: Take off perm rods
Step 11: Put oil on fingers to lessen the frizz
Step 12: Unravel the braids slowly and gently so not to disturb the curl patten created.
Step 13: Separate to desired fullness
Step 14 (Optional): Use a pick to pick the roots, remember don't disturb the curl!!!
Step 15: After you shaped it to your desired style your all done!!!
I finally became comfortable enough with myself and took the plunge on July 24, 2013. Another reason why I went ahead and cut the relaxed ends off was because my husband was finally ready to see my curls. Finally right, took him long enough lol. I did not cut my ends off myself, I got a friend of mine from home to it when I visited. She is a licensed cosmetologist so I was totally comfortable with letting her cut my hair. Below is the video of my big chop and my reaction.

My first wash n go to me looked liked a total fail, but I kinda liked the results that it gave my curls. I was just not to fond of the shrinkage. I was not used to that much of a change in length. It has been about 1 1/2 month since my big chop I am really enjoying all that my natural hair has to offer. If you have done the big chop or are planning to please share your experience with us.
So I went home (SC) in March and decided I wanted my hair straight. I didn't want to do it myself, so I weighed my options. Option one was letting a family member do it, but since none of them know anything about transitioning or natural hair that was out of the question. Option two was going to my stylist, but I was still scared of getting heat damage. So I opted for option three which was getting the Huetiful NanoSmoothing Treatment. So yes...I drove from SC to ATL to get my hair LAID HUNNIE!!! I got my hair treated by Nina Christmas who was wonderful and very informative. In the video below you will see that I didn't have to say anything lol. She describes what the treatment does step by step. Enjoy the video and pictures below.
It's the place where everyboby gets there sample products from. But the thing is you have to get a subscription, which is the hardest thing ever. I thought I was done this month because I didn't get one during the regular sale, but to God Be The Glory...they opened it up again today!!! Only 9 were available and guess what, I got one....booooo-yahhhhhh (in my BAPS voice).

So as you can see this past month I have been very active with my hair. I still continued to deep condition my hair EVERY week, but only washing it when needed. I think I washed it once lol!!! I continue to use the hairdrenalin potion at least 4 times a week. I have recently added a new oil to my regimen because I want my edges to grow back in. After researching I decided to give Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO) a try for about 5 months just to see if I noctice a change, and I will post an update just to keep you posted. I've been just having fun with my hair.

Recently I put the Senegalese Twists back in my hair because I wanted to give my hair a break from all the manipulation I did last month. I plan on leaving them in until it's time to STRAIGTHEN. So far I am enjoying the no heat challenge, so who knows I might go longer!!!
This challenged involved me NOT using any heat, doing protective styles, and using hairdrenalin potion.
I am proud to announce that I have not used ANY heat on my hair thus far!!! When I do a deep condition I put a cap on, then wrap a towel around my head which makes its own heat. I always let my hair air dry, and if I don't want shrinkage I just let it dry in twist/braids.
I took out my Senegalese twists about two weeks of having them in, but I have been doing other styles like TNC, BNC, rod sets, and buns. I am really enjoying this!!! I plan on putting some Senegalese twists or box braids back in my hair after I trim in about 2 weeks.
I have been using my hairdrenalin 4-5 times a week. I won't know how much growth I have until I flat iron in October, but you can see how much natural hair growth I have when you watch my videos on YT.
I WILL BE UPDATED YOU AGAIN NEXT MONTH.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07731570249420535971noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1031969609849969092.post-90367153076037923912012-07-19T11:32:00.002-07:002012-09-02T08:34:26.135-07:00Whipped Shea and Cocoa Butter MixtureI know some of you want to know how you can moisturize your hair with natural products but don't know where to start. You have brought all of these ingredients, and don't know how much to use, so let me just give you a starting point.

1. Melt down 1oz of Cocoa Butter using the double boiler method
2. Add 3 oz of yellow Shea Butter, 3 oz of ivory Shea Butter, and Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
3. Mix ingredients until you come to a creamy consistency
4. Add your carrior oils: 1 TBS of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil; 2 TSP of Almond Oil, Castor Oil, Jamaican Black Castor Oil.
5. Add 1 TBS of Aloe Vera Juice/Gel; 2 TBS of Distilled Water, Vegetable Glycerin
6. Add your essential oils: 5-7 drops of Orange EO, Peppermint EO, Lavender EO, Rosemary EO
10-15 drops of Tea Tree Oil and Vitamin E Oil (these two I use as my main persevative)
7. Mix all the ingredients until it is nice and fluffy, this will take approximately 5 mins.
8.Optional Add Fragance and mix again for about 2 mins.

Now all you have to do is put your batch into containers. This batch makes approximately 21 oz of whipped shea and cocoa buttter.
Take into account that you can use any butters and oils that you want to make your mixture, these are just some of the one's that my husband likes in his. We both use this mixture as a moisturizer and a sealant, and it works great. We also use this mixture on our body as a lotion, especially when we forget to put it on before we go out lol.
I do have a channel that i recently started. You can find it if you look me up under "naturallysheray."
Let me start by saying I apologize for all the "UMMS," I am still trying to get used to this whole video thing because I am new at it. I am currently 17 weeks post relaxer and I am LOVING IT!!! I do NOT have a set BC date, but I will say I will not transition longer than 2 yrs. Transition includes weightloss and going au-naturale. I started at 171 lbs and I'm now 158 lbs. I take oxyelite pro to suppress my appetite and I love it. My inspiration for going natural is Naptural85, Kikicouture10, and Taren916, and blogger CurlyNikki. I will be uploading videos about every two weeks so be sure to check back.
Subscribe Rate or Comment!!!
This challenge will entail in NO HEAT. This means no blow drying, no flat ironning, no hooded dryer either. For me this will be a challenge because my hair takes forever to dry at the roots. Sometimes about 2 days!!! But it wouldn't be a challenge if I wasn't pushed to new limits.
I just purchased some hairdrenalin potion offline and will be incorporating this into my hair routine also. Some people don't agree with "potions," but do whatever works for you. I will be using it because it is all natural so I do not think it will do any damage to my hair.

Come join me on this 3 month challenge to healthier hair. I'm not saying that it will be easy, but the end results will be worth it.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07731570249420535971noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1031969609849969092.post-79676739404234423852012-06-07T15:35:00.000-07:002012-06-07T15:39:05.813-07:00My Tools For Transitioning

Hey everyone!!! I know it's been a while but I wanted to start
more on my natural journey before I start giving some "transitioning"
advice. So far I have been going natural for about 14 weeks now and I still
love it.

1. Decide Why You Are Going Natural: I am going natural
because I want to have a healthy lifestyle.
My journey is about my hair, mind, and body.

•Hair- "Au-Natural"

•Mind-Having a Great Relationship with God (#1 Priority)

•Body-Getting My Weight under Control (Keeping It Off)

I have a little girl and I want her to be able to look in
the mirror and be proud of herself and her lovely hair. She not going to have a
good self-esteem if she sees her mother is not happy with herself. I have to
lead by example.

2. Get Inspired: I have been constantly on the internet. I
look at pictures, on natural hair blogs, and on YouTube. There is so much information
out there; you just have to look for it. My favorite natural hair blog at the
moment would be CurlyNikki because she has SOOO much “useful” information on
her website. On YouTube I have to favorites: Naptural85 and Kikicouture10. They
both have hairstyles that you can try, do it yourself homemade recipes, and
tips for naturals and transitioners.

3. Positive Reinforcement: Surround yourself with “positive”
people. I have been very lucky so far. Everyone around me is really supportive
of my entire process.

4. Get to Know Your Hair: You do this by doing different
styles on your hair. I have tried numerous hairstyles in just these past few
weeks lol. I’ve tried bantu knot-outs (both two-strand and regular),
braid-outs, twist-outs, perm rods, flexi-rods, and twist n curl. I have to say
that my favorite thus far is the flexi-rods because they last the longest. My
go to hairstyle is the bantu knot-outs. Maybe this will change once my hair
gets a little thicker, who knows.

Any Advice For Newly Transitioners Please Feel Free To Comment
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07731570249420535971noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1031969609849969092.post-17673301855006701022012-05-14T22:52:00.003-07:002012-05-14T22:52:58.867-07:00Options For Going NaturalWhen going natural everybody wants some miracle potion that strips the relaxer from your hair, but guess what? THAT POTION DOESN'T EXIST!!! You have two options when you want to go natural.

BC (Big Chop): When you cut off all the chemically treated hair, leaving Au-Natural.

Transitioning: Growing your relaxed hair out, trimming it off as you go along.

Short Term- I describe this as being less than 8 months post relaxer, cutting the relaxed hair off sooner rather than later.

Long Term- I describe this as being more than 8 months post relaxer.

Myself, personally, couldn't not cut off all my hair at once so I decided to do a transition. Next was whether to do a short or long term transition. I really don't want to go back to having short hair so I decided to do a long term transition. My transition will last approximately 2 years, or whenever all the relaxed hair is gone...whichever comes first.

Make a commitment and stick to it because it will be worth it in the end. Surrounding yourself with positive aspects of going natural will be very beneficial while on this long transitioning journey.
WRONG!!! There is so much you can do without, do I dare say...sitting under the dryer.

A couple of hairstyles to consider are:

Some items I would suggest are:

Sulfate-Free Shampoo
Moisturizing Conditioner
Deep Conditioner
Natural Oils coconut, jojoba, shea butter, and olive oil
Hair Rollers/Perm Rods
Bobby Pins
Metal Free Hair Elastics
Wide Tooth Comb
Hooded Dryer
Silk or Satin Scarf, Bonnet, and/or Pillowcase

I am a beginning transitioner, and my last relaxer was about 2 months ago.

Don't get me wrong, I love my straight hair but I'm tired of putting all these chemicals in my hair when I can get the same results with way less damage. I can also curl my hair with no heat, yes ladies I said no heat. No more sitting under the dryer for hours for a hairstyle that lasts for 1 day. I tried transitioning once before, but didn't go through with it because I didn't know much about it. Now I do...and I'm going to share it with the rest of the new transitioners that have the same problem.

Included in my blog will be reviews of natural hair care products, tools needed to transition, and videos of hairstyles for transitioners. I'm not saying this journey will be easy, but we as African American women have to embrace our Naturally Lovely Hair.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07731570249420535971noreply@blogger.com0
